The main aim of the Clarksons Society is to publicise and celebrate the life and work of Thomas & John Clarkson and to encourage scholarly research into the life and work of the two brothers.
The Clarksons Society also aims to celebrate and publicise the achievements of the people - black, white, male and female who contributed to the change in public and parliamentary opinions that led to the Abolition of the Slave Trade in the British Colonies in 1807 and the Abolition of Slavery in the British Colonies in 1833 (1838).
The Society is at present web based and does not ask its supporters to become formal members' or pay a membership fee. In the future it aims to set up a members' only area of the website to encourage debate amongst historians and other interest researchers. It is also hoped that this Society website will be a place for contributions of articles, information and weblinks on Thomas and John Clarkson.
